Book of the Day, Sat, 04 Apr 2020 19:51:10

On this day our choice of outstanding sci-fi is J. Darris Mitchell’s “Fireflies and Cosmos” (t.co/h5HNLZjij3). Fireflies is a truly intriguing work of fiction, so when it comes to norm-shattering titles in all the domains of sci-fi, we’re not regretting including this one on our lists. In this case, we find a story that is undeniably legendary in its delivery. If you have time for anything today, you should have a quick look at how sci-fi readers took it. We took note of the words from an obviously enthused reader, “A sci-fi story about a scientific crew and their mission to explore and categorize seeded planets. Part Star Trek, part Starship Trooper, and part Margaret Atwood and Henry David Thoreau’s writing- all in a bite-size format. J Darris has great knowledge about the natural world and incorporates some of his biological background to write scifi about terraforming and astrobiology. The plants and animals that the author has created are novel and interesting. So is the overarching mystery and background story of the original planetary seeders and the Corporations. There’s even a bit of romantic spice to mix things up. I enjoyed reading about the universe that the author has created and cannot wait to read the next series and see where the crew of the Artemis ends up next!” If you’ve been kind enough to read our lovingly crafted review, you might as well go the whole way and search for your own copy. If not, subscribe for email updates until we discover the next Asimov or Clarke. We all expect it will happen soon.
